Abstract

Education act as a backbone in the development of any country. Therefore, it is important to deliver
quality education to its citizens to equip them to play a significant role in the development of their
country. The provision of quality education in developing countries is affected due to many factors
such as lack of resources, mismanagement, population growth, the increased urbanization process,
political instability, lack of effective policymaking, and so on. This research study selected
population growth and urbanization factors to assess its impact on quality education at the
secondary school level (9th and 10th grades). The quality education is measured through eight
indicators: literacy, student-teacher ratio, career guidance, training of faculty, administration,
extra-curriculum support, faculty, and curriculum. The data is gathered through primary and
secondary sources. The survey method is used for primary data. The respondents of the research
study are teachers, students, and administration of the school. The study targeted population is
public sector schools and average private sector schools of Rawalpindi tehsil that are registered
with the BISE Rawalpindi board. The research study's findings show that population growth and
urbanization process impacts the quality of education. The findings show that different indicators
affect quality education differently. The secondary data shows a great difference between the total
number of appeared students for exams and the total number of passed students. Therefore, almost
50 percent of students fail the exams. It shows the lack of quality education at the secondary school
level.
